Google recently announced they would be using SSLs 2048-bit key / HTTPS as a ranking signal in their search algorithm. Whilst it will only make up a ‘lightweight signal’, Google have said that they may strengthen the signal over time, giving webmasters a chance to switch to HTTPS.
