They are the UK’s leading sightseeing tour and ticket company specialising in UK day trips, hop-on hop-off bus tours, guided London tours, attraction tickets, rail trips, theatre tickets, the world famous Warner Bros. Harry Potter Studio Tour and more. As such, they picked the UK’s leading web agency to create a completely bespoke custom PHP ecommerce travel / ticketing booking system, custom website design and more. The scope of this project was absolutely massive with 1,500 hours of coding going into the design and function of their website along with a fully custom hypertext preprocesser (PHP) solution being made for the brand. In fact this was he largest single project we have ever developed – all while in the shadow and limitations imposed by the covid-19 pandemic. We undertook API work with the brand new Ventrata booking system so that the website could work in harmony and ‘speak to’ this ticketing system for booking the myriad of attractions that London has to offer. This was made to integrate seamlessly with the existing Golden Tours booking system for a world class user experience (UX) for their global website visitors. Ventrata offer an all-in-one system for tourism and leisure in this way and are used by industry-leaders such as the Paramount Pictures Studio Tour and iconic brands such as StarLine Tours. By allowing integrations with websites, this means that the Golden Tours website could benefit from the power of Ventrata, all without website visitors having to navigate away from the Golden Tours website.
Design-wise we empowered the Golden Tours website with a content rich interface – filled with easy to navigate tabs and pages detailing London attractions, methods to purchase tickets and a special section dedicated to the extremely popular Warner Bros Studio Tours (featuring The Making of Harry Potter). We utilised a classic white background for the website pages and made use of dark blue, light blue and orange buttons and calls-to-action (CTAs) which made for a highly visual design to help drive engagement and interaction. The additions of an online chat, phone numbers and currency selector in the header and social media links in the footer made it easy and accessible for people all around the world to get in touch with the brand and budget in their local currency.
With the covid-19 pandemic still casting a shadow over the travel and tourism industry, we worked in a flexible and responsive way to assist Golden Tours during the obvious downturn in traffic and customer interaction that they were experiencing. An example of this would be placing a ‘Now Open’ tab at the start of the menu ribbon to signal what attractions are open and available to be booked and visited for example. But we are now glad to see a huge surge in bookings and it's great to see both the website and London coming back to life and performing as they should. With this, Golden Tours are primed and ready to have a profitable return to this ‘new normal’ for their industry – with a turbocharged online presence thanks to the Webheads team.
