Our application programme interface (API) work for Golden Tours made it possible for Harry Potter fans to easily and seamlessly book a Warner Bros. Studio tour to see the sets and props from the iconic Harry Potter movies. We made it possible for the Golden Tours website to integrate and ‘speak to’ their ticket booking system for example. This meant that visitors to the Golden Tours website could see live availability for these Harry Potter tour tickets – for dates both coming soon or far into the future. This live ticket allocation and booking was responsive in that it would let visitors know if certain times and / or dates were sold out. As such, it meant that visitors only needed to use the website for all of their ticket needs – without the pain or time-consuming act of having to call or e-mail for further help and information.
While the tickets were the main element to the API work, there were also various other aspects as to when APIs came into great use. Add-ons to the bookings required additional linking between the website and software that dictated stock and availability for extra features. These included adding the popular Harry Potter Butterbeer drink to bookings or arranging private or public transportation to the studio sets as part of the booking. Displaying the time and dates of this transportation and being able to offer return or one-way trips required information to be understood and passed to the website for visitors to then make their selection from.
Yet another great feature with the purchase of these tickets is that those who purchase them are given the option to print them at home. This again goes a long way towards streamlining the Golden Tours offering, as visitors can easily convert into customers knowing that the website can both book their tickets and provide them with the opportunity to then print them. The instantaneous nature of this printing possibility cuts out any postal or waiting times, enabling tickets to be presented as a gift to someone for example. In this instance, links were made from the ticket booking software to the website in terms of availability and then with the payment gateway (Sagepay) to let the website know that a transaction was successful and that tickets could now be printed.
As mentioned above, the Sagepay payment gateway was also implemented – empowering the website with a trusted and world renowned platform with which to process card payments for the tour tickets. As you can see from above, our superb API work completely streamlined and facilitated the selling of these tickets online for Golden Tours. With just a few simple clicks their website visitors can check live availability for dates and times, can purchase tickets online, add-on any optional extras of their choosing and they can even print their tickets at home for a completely seamless and pain-free purchasing transaction. Just like the magic of the Harry Potter word; APIs are their own kind of magic – building bridges between websites and software to carry out a multitude of useful and time-saving functions.
