Sled Dog Racing is in increasing in it's popularity every year, and with 50 events for the forthcoming season, there is an event for everyone from the novice to the harden racer to chose from.

At present pratically every race organisation in the UK, onlys allows "pure breed" sleddogs to race. Whilst this does retain the pure breed dogs such as Siberian Huskies, it does mean we lag behind the internationally development of the sport. Elsewhere in the world "open class" racing dominates.

There are 8 main racing organisations in the UK.

• The British Musher's Association , This is membership based and aims to represent British Mushers both here in the UK and abroad. It is the only UK club that is a member of ISDRA. This year we are working towards an ISDRA sanctioned race series, run under ISDRA regulations. Contact J-M Littman jm@webheads.co.uk for further information.
  
• The National Sled Dog Championships - Sled Dog 2000, This group organise The National Championship a series of 6 races throughout the UK. This is non-membership.
  
• ABSA.- Affiliated British Sleddog Activities This organisation is an overall body that individual races can affiliate to, in order to unify and work together for the better of th sport. ABSA itself organises thier own races, but have recently lost the National Championship affiliation.
  
• Siberian Husky Club of GB This is the breed club for the UK, and is membership based.
  
• SDAS. - Sled Dog Association of Scotland They specifically organise races in Scotland, and is membership based.
  
• SSHC - The Scottish Siberian Husky Club A breed "branch" for the Scots. who also organise races in Scotland.
  
• BSHRA - The British Siberian Husky Racing Association, A private organisation that is non-membership, and organise a series of races with a restrictive entry, that does not allow some teams and pure breed lines to compete at their races. Personal comment - BSHRA would have you believe they run a British Championship, but they refuse entry to the best teams, which some say is so the organiser can then win instead !! - my views
