Sled dog racing can provide your family with unique and exciting entertainment. To enjoy the sport at its fullest, take advantage of the following tips.

Never bring your pets to the race site. Drivers of racing teams cannot be responsible for the safety of your animals. Races can be disrupted by pets bolting onto the course.

Sudden moves toward or away from the trail may cause a team to bolt so pick your position and hold it until all teams in your area have passed your post.

Never offer a dog treats and always ask before petting.

All photographers should make sure that their activities will not startle the dogs or interfere with a team's progress.

Co-operate with race officials. Stay clear of the trail. Stand well back as anyone too close may distract the dogs and cause them to bolt or balk. It's easier for everyone to have a clear view of the teams if the crowd is not jammed together.

1998 Race Dates

12/13th December - Brandon, Norfolk

From the south: Take the M11 to junction 9, then the A11 towards Newmarket. Continue on the A11 towards Thetford. At the Barton Mills/Mildenhall roundabout take the A1065 towards Brandon.Continue past Lakenheath runways for about 3/4 mile and the Race Site will be signposted on the right.From the north: From the M1/M6 junction take the A14 heading towards Kettering. Bypass Kettering and continue on the A14 towards Newmarket. After bypassing Newmarket take the A11 towards Thetford. At the Barton Mills roundabout follow the directions as "from the south".

1999 Race Dates

2/3rd January - Cannock, W. Midlands

From the South: M6 J4. Follow directions for Lichfield A446 (A38). In Lichfield follow signs A51 Stone, Rugeley (North). Stay on the A51. In Rugeley under bridges, through traffic lights, past the Little Chef and Shell Garage on the right. You now come to a set of traffic lights - turn left here. Follow instructions marked * as below.

From the North: M6 J15 (A500) Stoke On Trent. Take the first exit off the A500 and follow A34 Stone (Trentham Gardens). On leaving Stone take the A51 (Rugeley, Lichfield). In Rugeley follow the A51 until you reach the first set of traffic lights. Turn right here. * Stay on this road, past the school, on a left hand bend and up a hill. The Race Site will be signposted on a tight left hand bend.

30/31st January - Tentsmuir, E. Scotland

From the south: From the Forth Road Bridge, follow the M90 signposted to Perth, take junction 8 (A91) signposted to St. Andrews. At Guardbridge trun left at the roundabout onto the A919 for Leuchars. After passing the papermill (on your right) take the next right and turn up the hill (signposted RAF Leuchars). Pass the RAF Leuchars main gate (on your right) and carry on towards the village church which sits on a sharp bend. Turn right at the church following th Sleddog 2000 signs.From the north: Cross the Tay Road Bridge and turn left at the roundabout (B946) signposted to Tayport. Follow the B945 through Tayport. After approx. 2.5 miles turn left towards Kinshaldy beach. Pass Craigie and Rhynd farms before seeing Sleddog 2000 signs (left turn towards beach).

13/14th February - Tentsmuir, E. Scotland

27/28th February - Brandon, Norfolk

20/21st March - Aberfolye, Central Scotland

Aberfolye lies on the A81 road 27 miles north of Glasgow. Access the forest is from the west end of Aberfolye's main street. Turning left over the bridge, head for Balleich which lies approximately one mile from Aberfolye. After Balleich the race site is approx. half a mile into the forest. The venue will be signposted from Aberfolye, main street.
